These words are really confusing and can be mixed up a lot because in addition to having similar spelling and sounds in speech, these three share kind of similar meanings. Of course, the meaning is not completely the same and we should understand the difference.

Assure = remove any doubts or tell somebody something is true and going to happen often to make them less worried. It is followed by an object pronoun. The most important thing about this word is that, assure used with people.

For example,

My friend assured me, he would come to the party.

Let me assure you that the children are safe.

I assure you we will finish the project on time.

My coworkers assured me, that I made the right decision.

To ensure =  means to make sure and certain that something happens. The less formal meaning of this word in English is ( make sure ). It is not followed by an object pronoun and we can’t use it with people. It is used for situations, events, and conditions.

For example,

I called the bakery to ensure that the cake would be ready for the party.

Please ensure to lock all the doors behind you.

Please ensure the meeting starts on time

My company ensured all the equipment will be shipped.

To insure = means to protect something with an insurance policy and to pay money to a company for protection. So we use this word in finance and business when communicating about risk management.

For example,

I insured my car against any accident.

I always insure my phone against water damage.

I should have insured my boat, it was damaged.

How much should I insure my house for?
